[ It takes Jane a long while to settle down to this first ... whatever. Video? Journal entry? Something. She has clothes - not her own, but clothes nonetheless - and even a small bag of food, to take with her when she goes to find ... well. Someplace to stay. Stay, not live. This won't be home. It can't be.

She sighs heavily, puffing her cheeks out on a hard breath as she flips through the pages. An hour or two of reading have acquainted her with how the system works, as bizarre as it is. She sounds tired, when she speaks, a sort of bone weary ache. ]

Alright. So the journal is some sort of half-book half-iPad technomagical means of communicating, aaaaand this place gives you wings. [ A beat. ] There's a cheesy Red Bull ad in there somewhere, but I'm not going there.

[ A pause. Stay on track for three seconds, why don't you? ]

Sorry, I-- my name is Jane Foster. I'm a astrophysicist with SHIELD, if that means anything to anyone. Well, more like a researcher, but -- anyway. I just really hope that means something to someone. It'd be nice to at least -- I don't know. Have a familiar face from my own world. Or universe. I'm guessing universe.

[ Another pause, shorter. ] So how many versions of Earth are there, here? I'm going to guess at least a dozen. Maybe several dozen, who knows. And probably plenty of other worlds besides. From who knows how many different universes. And yet here we all are. [ She laughs, incredulous and kind of unhappy. ] This place is somehow the special one. I'd just -- love to know how they do it, really. Someone's going to tell me it's magic, and I just--

[ She finally stops, sighing again. ]

Sorry, sorry. Um -- hi. Nice to ... meet all of you, I guess.

Well, if people on your Earth normally have wings, I'm definitely not from the same one.

[ A sudden laugh. ] No, they definitely don't. I just meant it's nice to hear about someone from a version of Earth similar to mine.

Oh, uh. Impressive? I can't say I really know a lot about it. Sounds like a big deal, though.

It's the London police department. If anyone's made it sound glamorous, they were lying.

[ She laughs again. ] TV and books, mostly. Sorry. I guess to an American it just sort of sounds impressive.

Well, I don't mind sounding impressive.

Astrophysics, though, that's a bit higher up. What's SHIELD; a research facility?

Sort of yes, but mostly no. [ Her smile is crooked. ] They do research, yeah, and that's something I help with. But to my understanding they're mostly a branch of the US government. It stands for something really ridiculous, like, uh... "Strategic Homeland Intervention" something something. [ A beat. ] They're noooot really my favorite people. But it was a job offer I couldn't really refuse.

[Strategic Homeland Intervention sounds like something that takes up a hell of a lot of money; that's all Sally knows about it.]

I don't think my world has one of those.

I guess that miiight depend on if your world has super heroes.

...We definitely don't have superheroes. Not real ones.

Yyyyeah. Ours are real. So are alien invasions, by the way.

...If it's all the same, I'm going to continue hoping that if my world makes extraterrestrial contact, it's of the peaceful variety.

I definitely don't blame you. They destroyed half of Manhattan. Believe me, it's still surreal to think about. And I've known about the whole super hero thing for years. I mean -- everyone grew up knowing about Captain America.

Captain-- from the movie?

[Or...probably not.]

...In my world, Captain America is a character from a comic book, or something. There was a film about him last year.

[ Opens mouth. Shuts it. ]

I mean ... he had comic books made about him after World War II, yeah, but he's a real guy. He starred in a bunch of cheesy propaganda films that mostly just serve as college class fodder these days.

[ ... ]

What about Iron Man? Is that familiar to you?

Not only is he familiar, he's here. He was in a movie as well; I actually saw that one. Played by Robert Downey Jr. Which makes talking to him a bit strange.

He's here?

[ Ah. Someone to talk to, then. ]

Thaaaaat's really, really weird to hear, though. The movie thing, not the part that he's here. What about... the Hulk? Hawkeye? Black Widow? ... Thor?

I know about the Hulk and Thor; they had movies too. The others don't sound familiar.

[Not much of a superhero buff.]

The Hulk is here too. I haven't spoken to him - I don't know if he even talks, to be honest - but I've seen him around. He's hard to miss.

[ ... Thor had a movie?

.......... was she in it?

WOW THIS IS WAY TOO SURREAL TO EVEN CONTEMPLATE, WOW. Just. After her mouth hangs open for a second, she snaps her jaw shut and tries to regain her composure.

And then she hears the Hulk is here. ]

He's what? ... and the village isn't leveled yet?

Well, either it's the Hulk or a completely different huge, green, humanoid, cross-looking monster who can leap tall buildings. He hasn't tried to level anything that I know of, but he sort of...rattles things a bit when he lands.

... wow. Just ... wow. [ She really doesn't know what to say to that. ]

That's really surreal. I mean, I guess it's not too surprising that what's real in my universe would be fictional in yours. But it's strange to hear that everything I know to be true is something out of a comic book for you. [ Something of a smile. ] That's going to take some getting used to.

Well, it's possible my world is fictional in yours. Just...less popular fiction. At least you've got big strapping men in spandex on your news feeds - we've professional wrestlers, but it's not the same.

[ Laughs. ]

Less with the spandex, actually. But point taken. [ A pause, and somewhat thoughtfully. ] Wonder how I'd know if your world was fictional in mine. It sounds pretty normal to me.

It is normal, but it has its share of excitement. Nothing out of the ordinary for a cop, I guess. Although I do know one ridiculous, overbearing genius who tends to make every day I see him less ordinary than it ought to be.
