[ It takes Jane a long while to settle down to this first ... whatever. Video? Journal entry? Something. She has clothes - not her own, but clothes nonetheless - and even a small bag of food, to take with her when she goes to find ... well. Someplace to stay. Stay, not live. This won't be home. It can't be.

She sighs heavily, puffing her cheeks out on a hard breath as she flips through the pages. An hour or two of reading have acquainted her with how the system works, as bizarre as it is. She sounds tired, when she speaks, a sort of bone weary ache. ]

Alright. So the journal is some sort of half-book half-iPad technomagical means of communicating, aaaaand this place gives you wings. [ A beat. ] There's a cheesy Red Bull ad in there somewhere, but I'm not going there.

[ A pause. Stay on track for three seconds, why don't you? ]

Sorry, I-- my name is Jane Foster. I'm a astrophysicist with SHIELD, if that means anything to anyone. Well, more like a researcher, but -- anyway. I just really hope that means something to someone. It'd be nice to at least -- I don't know. Have a familiar face from my own world. Or universe. I'm guessing universe.

[ Another pause, shorter. ] So how many versions of Earth are there, here? I'm going to guess at least a dozen. Maybe several dozen, who knows. And probably plenty of other worlds besides. From who knows how many different universes. And yet here we all are. [ She laughs, incredulous and kind of unhappy. ] This place is somehow the special one. I'd just -- love to know how they do it, really. Someone's going to tell me it's magic, and I just--

[ She finally stops, sighing again. ]

Sorry, sorry. Um -- hi. Nice to ... meet all of you, I guess.

She blows out a breath. ]

I don't remember the last time I ate. I don't even know how much time has passed here relative to the Earth I was on--

... I mean, um, sure. Why not.

Okay, Seventh Heaven it is. [He gestures to one of the nearby buildings, starting towards it.] From what I've heard, the move from home to here is instant, but don't quote me on that.

... instant. [ She shakes her head, briefly pressing fingers to her chin, though she follows his lead. ] It's got to be wormholes, how else could they get us here so fast? I'll have to watch the sky for phenomena--

[ ... again, she stops. At least this time she has the good grace to wince, apologetic. ]

I -- sorry, I do that a lot.

[She gets a blank look for a long moment as she speaks, then he shakes it off and grins, the awkwardness slowly slipping away. This is okay, actually. This is very okay.]

Don't worry about it. It's kind of surreal, though. You said- scientist, right? The Jane Foster I know is into medicine.

Medicine? Wow. [ She watches him, genuinely interested. ] I can't imagine that. I've been into astronomy since I was a little girl. [ The corner of her mouth quirks. ] I'm an astrophysicist, yeah. [ A beat, and she considers him. ] Is that why you know me? Was I -- treating you, or something, in your universe?

Basically, yeah- you were my doctor for a while. Or she was, I should say. [He scuffs at the dirt a bit with his shoe, grabbing the door to open it for her once they reach the building.] Sorry, it might take some time for me to not mix you guys up.

[ Very polite. She likes that, heading inside, though once past the threshold she waits for him to join her, her eyes scanning the tables. How do restaurants work in a town that has no monetary system to speak of? ]

No, it's okay. I can understand the confusion. We probably look exactly the same, right? More or less. We've just lead different lives. Though ... I'm starting to wonder if there's a version of you in my universe that I just haven't met yet.

[He's still getting used to that part himself, even after a week or two. He continues in after her, picking a random table to go sit down at. It's so weird to consider this alternate existence, but... really? It's not that unusual, actually.]

Maybe? I know there's at least one other version of me out there, because I met him. [He makes a face.] He wasn't very smart, though.

[ That gives her pause, as she pulls out a chair opposite him. ]

... that ... must have been weird. [ She laughs a little, sympathetic. ] Do I even want to know how something like that happened?

Weird doesn't even cut it. I can't really explain how it happened, though- to be honest I don't really get it, myself. Something about portals and alternate dimension and time travel.

... portals and time travel I get. Alternate dimension, not so much. [ Another laugh. ] One of these days I'm going to give myself a headache trying to make it all make sense.

[ There's a beat, and she sobers a little. Softly: ]

... you know Thor? --and the Avengers?

[He looks visibly relieved to admit it, rather than reluctant; he's just happy that the name is recognized for once.]

I mean, I've never met Thor personally, but I guess you could say he's a role model of mine. I grew up in New York with the Avengers as, like, my neighbourhood watch. Literally.

[ ... a soft sound escaped her, kind of amused, and her expression shifts through a few complicated emotions at once. ]

... he must spend more time on Earth, in your universe.

[ Wistfully. But she shakes herself out of it, focusing. ]

I'm going to guess most of the events you know don't correspond to mine. In my universe, the Avengers are -- very new. They didn't even exist until New York City came under attack recently, and then suddenly they were just ... there.

Oh wow, that far back? That's amazing. [He's kinda jealous now. Then again, he knew that Jane had been around since then, just never got to talk to her about it before.

He quietly evades the comment about Thor; he really doesn't have the heart to mention that the god is, for the moment, presumed to be dead.] The Avengers were... kind of disbanded for a while, and things have been weird lately. But when I was a kid there's nothing I wanted to be more than one of them.

[ ... it's like a history lesson, to him. How surreal.

And yeah, best she doesn't know. She hasn't seen Thor in over a year. It wouldn't ... you know. Help. ]

Disbanded... so something went wrong. [ With mild curiosity. She can sort of imagine. There are some strong personalities in that group. ]

... are you one of them? Not ... the Avengers, but ... a superhero.

[He blinks at her question; he honestly hadn't expected her to ask that.]

Actually, uh... kind of, yeah. It's a long story. My team's called the Young Avengers, for lack of a better title.

[They hadn't even gotten to pick one for themselves- it just kind of stuck.]

... wow. I feel old, somehow. [ She laughs. ]

Is it ... everything you dreamed it would be?

[ Curious, but tempered, too. If the Avengers disbanded... ]

[He grins, briefly, then ducks his head.]

Yes, and no. I love being a super hero - not just having powers, though that's nice, but... I dunno. Having the power to help people, to really make a difference. I was always kind of a loser who couldn't do anything to help people, so it was a big deal to finally be a part of something like the team.

[ ... he's obviously a good kid. That's a relief enough in itself. ]

... you make it sound pretty awesome, I gotta say. I think you're pretty brave for being able to pull it off. I don't think I could. [ She shakes her head, leaning back in her seat. ] Before Thor showed up, I think the most exciting thing that ever happened to me was getting high marks on my doctoral thesis.

That's pretty exciting by itself, I guess. [He doesn't really see the draw, personally. But he's never been much into science, either. The downside of being your average sixteen-year-old is that there isn't much passion for school.] And more ambitious than me, too- all I've got to gloat about is meeting the Scarlet Witch.

... the Scarlet Witch? [ Sheer unfamiliarity, over here. ]

Oh, right... she's probably not with your Avengers yet. But she will be someday- ...that is, I hope she will. [He fidgets a bit. If the Scarlet Witch didn't exist in some other universe - or if she was just Wanda Maximoff - does that mean he wouldn't exist at all?] She's a really strong mutant, with the power to bend reality. And she's always been my favourite. Her and Thor, I mean.

It's hard to say. I don't know how similar our universes are. But ... I hope so too. [ He seems so earnest about it. ] ... the power to bend reality. Okay, that's way outside my expertise. Space I can do. Crazy mutant powers, not so much. [ ... that gets a smile, though. ] Well, it sounds like you have good taste, anyway. [ Teasing, a little. ]

Heh, yeah, I think so. It worked out pretty well, though- I mean, the original Avengers were Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk. When us Young Avengers got together, we thought we'd emulate them, maybe bring back the heart of the group. I was a big fan of Thor and all those Norse myths, and I had the right ability, so- [He pauses, lifting a hand to let a spark of electricity course over his fingers before letting it fade.] ...I became Asgardian.

[ ... ] That doesn't actually match the original lineup that I know about. Our Avengers has two more members.

[ But she shuts up when he does his little magic trick, physically startling. Her mouth even drops open. ]

Y- ... okay. That you have to explain to me. How do you just become Asgardian?
